MACHT KUNST 1
On the occasion of the opening of the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, Berlin-based artists were able to exhibit their works in the gallery spaces on Unter den Linden on 8/9 April under the motto MACHT KUNST. Due to the great response, a second 24-hour presentation was made possible on 28/29 April at the Alte Münze Berlin.
From among 2,135 participants, a panel of experts (René Block, curator; Friedhelm Hütte, Deutsche Bank Art; Sophie von Olfers, curator) awarded six artists each a two-week solo exhibition in the KunstHalle’s studio. In addition, an Audience Award in the form of a one-year studio grant was presented as part of both presentations.

MACHT KUNST 2 – Your sculpture for Berlin
Building on MACHT KUNST 1, Deutsche Bank and Art-Invest Real Estate invited submissions in 2015 for a large-scale sculpture to be installed in front of Deutsche Bank’s new building in Berlin-Charlottenburg. All concepts were presented on 7/8 November in a 24-hour exhibition in Deutsche Bank’s atrium. From 420 submissions, the jury (Friedhelm Hütte, Deutsche Bank Art; Katharina Grosse, artist; Christoph Tannert, curator) selected Berlin-based artist Dirk Bell. His work 2 FREE SPACE has been on view on Otto-Suhr-Allee since 2016.

MACHT KUNST 3 – city video future
In spring 2017, Deutsche Bank and the film company UFA invited submissions as part of the MACHT KUNST competition, calling for videos on the future of the city. Video artists, art students, and amateur filmmakers were invited to respond to the question: “What will the city look like in 100 years?” The competition took place on the occasion of UFA’s 100th anniversary. Danielle Küchler Flores, Meredith Leich, and Sara Tirelli received the award, which included prize money and a UFA mentorship programme.

MACHT KUNST 4 – More room for creativity
In 2023, Deutsche Bank launched a new studio grant. The programme supported 50 artists with a one-year studio grant. It is aimed in particular at emerging artists at the beginning of their careers who are based in Germany. For artists working primarily with photography or on paper, there is also the possibility of an acquisition by the Deutsche Bank Collection.
